Beaten

Night is a strange time. Anyone can portray anything in the daylight, but it is only at night, after the world has closed, that certain people allow their true side come out. I started a pictorial journal of faces I saw daily in my old neighborhood. The streets were lined with bars, bathhouses and clubs. The main attraction that kept everyone coming back formore was the drugs. When the sun went down the neighborhood awoke. Come nightfall their crying, screaming and fighting would fill the air outside my door.
I began to paint these people as a way to show their deterioration as humans. As I work on this series, unconsciously things become more and more simplified. I started the series while I lived their, now that I have moved I feel more like an outsider that was caught in a surreal dream that lasted three years.
